WHAT CAMERA DID YOU USE FOR THESE IMAGES?
my point and shoot 35 mm:)
DO YOU SHOOT WITH FILM?
always
DO YOU SET UP THE SHOTS OR IS IT MORE CANDID?
for the nude series they are set up, they have to be since they are self portraits
ARE YOU ALONE? IS SOMEONE SNAPPING THE
BUTTON?
a bit of both
WHEN DID YOU BEGIN THE EVER-GROWING NUDE/SELF PORTRAIT SERIES?
trillions of years ago but the most consistency came out about 3 years ago
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE LOCATIONS FEATURED IN THIS SET OF IMAGES?
iceland, sweden, poland, south africa, all over the US and many more
WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO NATURE?
its the perfect place to contrast with actually human form
WHERE DO YOU THINK YOUR COMFORT WITH NUDITY COMES FROM?WERE YOU ALWAYS THIS WAY OR DID YOU HAVE TO OVERCOME ANY FEARS?
i think it started happening in m mid 20′s when I became more confident and realized woman of any shape and size are desirable. i was a tomboy my whole life and i used to be scared to even wear shorts to school because i had so many bruises on my legs from skateboarding.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE ASPECTS OF YOUR WORK IS THAT I AM SURE THAT THERE MUST BE SOME GOOD STORIES BEHIND THESE SHOTS …CARE TO SHARE ONE OF YOUR MOST MEMORABLE?
well i cant think of any specifically but it is always funny to see peoples reactions to see the limits we go to take a photo. actually the one on the bridge i had my boyfriend shoot of me, and once i got everyone to move off the bridge and i took my top off, people thought i was gona commit suicide! then when i came back down, we realized there was no film in the camera so i had to do it twice in a huge tourist situation!
the situations are never planned so often times im around people i never met, so they are either totally cool with that or they think im the biggest weirdo. haha
WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED FOR 2014, ANY EXCITING TRIPS COMING UP?
Haha yes! Most of the trips come up last min by surprise so we shall see but I do hope to go to Turkey this year!

Karl Does Dallas

So, the one time I’m not in Dallas is when Karl Lagerfeld decides to take over my city! Yesterday in my hometown of Dallas, Texas, Karl Lagerfeld premiered his Chanel Pre-Fall 2014 show “Back to Dallas” which used heavy influences of the Old West, including cowboys and indians, and everything there is that’s “Texas”. The show was put on in Dallas’ Fair Park pavilion, which was temporarily transformed into a giant barn where the models walked down a hay-strewn runway. A perfect setup for the theme of the olden days of Dallas where glam meets the wild- west. While most Texans don’t actually own a pair of cowboy boots or hat, they soon will be rocking the faux-cowboy boot hosiery, marvelous denim and leather seen in the show. I myself am not usually a huge fan of the Western style, but this Pre-Fall collection has won me over with its take on what was always thought to be just jeans, button up blouses, cowboy hats, boots, and spurs. The typical styles have been  replaced with a Paris-twist; leather, edgy fringe,  textured denim, and accessories to boot.     To see the full collection go here: http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/2014PF-CHANEL

Adventures with Jarrod: Manhattan Vintage Show

Recently in the Metropolitan Pavilion in lower midtown, I was able to attend the semi-annual Manhattan Vintage Show. The show is a two- day experience where one can shop from various vintage dealers and explore the styles of the past century up close. There were over ninety different dealers, such as local NY-based shops like Rue St Denis and New York Vintage, as well as boutiques from all over the country.

As I made my way through the booths, I came across gorgeous beaded dresses from the 1920s by unknown designers, rare Vivienne Westwood and Issey Miyake pieces, and enough plaid to last a lifetime.

One of the highlights of the vintage show is the people watching. I got to see an array of eclectic styles on the crowd of vintage devotees walking the floor, not just hanging on the racks.

It was like paradise to see so many people dressed in gorgeous, loud and extravagant clothes compared to the streets outside, where conservative and uniform style reign. Ladies in proper 1950’s glamour-looks were found shopping next to drag queens, celebrities (Misfit Dior & Debi Mazer!) and fans of obscure bondage- meets -bohemian style. It was definitely a place to both see and be seen, while browsing for a unique find.

While talking with Ken Weber of Vintage Martini from Texas(they have been trekking to this show since its early days), I learned that the show used to be about a one-third of the size! It has since grown and gained a lot of attention in the industry and beyond.  As we were chatting, fashion VIPs, Lynn Yaeger and Hamish Bowles appeared to browse in their booth, emphasizing his point.

Overall, to me the show was amazing in its ability to bring la crème de la crème of vintage fashion together, under one roof.

The next shows are coming right up! If vintage is what you crave, there is no place more perfect. I would highly suggest going to both shows if you are in the area.

See you there!

Serenity Bound

“When the city takes you in, don’t forget to look up” -Katra

Brooklyn rooftop.

Having recently moved to New York City from California, on multiple occasions I have found myself day-dreaming of the luscious fields and the scent of cedar & eucalyptus trees I often inhaled while biking at night through my neighborhood.

Somewhere in Pennsylvania.

I have found with a bit of exploring that pockets of nature truly exist here in the city. The Brooklyn Botanical Garden is a rare and beautiful gem with 52-acres worth trekking through.  On my visit I  found native flora, rose gardens, hiking trails and tranquility.

Here are some photos I took of my adventure.

These little feet have been many great places.
Feels like home!
Sunflower Heaven!
Hey dragon fly, can we be friends?
A delicious artichoke garden awaits you.

I’ve realized that no matter where you are you can find nature, but like most things you have to go out and find it, especially here in the city.  I have learned to take my time to become reminiscent of nature’s beauty. Sometimes escaping the concrete and passing through a local neighborhood garden  is all it takes to make your day and regain serenity.
